“Though there is an art to breeding good pack animals, it's a business, too, and the professionalism manifested by Stan and the company have been indispensable to me and my career.”
I am a nature photographer and have been packing my camera and camping gear on llamas for 35 years. They are reliable creatures that have made my wilderness photography more productive than if I’d had the gear on my back. They allow me to pack far better food and more gear, and to travel more miles with much less stress on my body. Llamas are easy to manage. They have a relaxed demeanor and need no food and water beyond what exists in the wild.
Buckhorn Llama Company has provided me many reliable llamas over the past 20 years at reasonable rates. They provide one stop “shopping” to include animals and all of the necessary packing equipment. Owner Stan Ebel has always been available to accommodate my pick up and drop off schedule. Though there is an art to breeding good pack animals, it’s a business, too, and the professionalism manifested by Stan and the company have been indispensable to me and my career.
“The fact that llamas are relatively low maintenance compared to other pack stock is such an asset to us. Stake them out and go hunting all day.”
Buckhorn Pack llamas have safely made seriously deep back country annual archery elk pack trips a realistic endeavor for me. Over a few years we have successfully packed out numerous elk and our back country camps. The fact that llamas are relatively low maintenance compared to other pack stock is such an asset to us. Stake them out and go hunting all day. Once you need them, their gentle manner is quite comforting when navigating even the most difficult of terrain together.
Buckhorn llama company provides well trained, experienced, fit animals that can go anywhere you can go basically. I’ve had a very bad experience with a llama from another rental company. It actually ruined most of our hunting trip. The difference in the quality of the llamas is like night and day. Stan really knows what he is doing. If you listen, then he will make sure you do as well.
“Well trained llamas such as provided by Buckhorn Llama Company are an invaluable resource to have here in Colorado. The memorable experience most visitors to Rocky Mountain National Park have would be impossible without the use of pack llamas.”
My name is David Harding and over the past five years I have been employed by the National Park Service at Rocky Mountain National Park as an Animal Packer, specifically using pack llamas from Buckhorn Llama Company for operations on Longs Peak, the highest peak in the surrounding region.
It is no easy task to consistently carry heavy loads up and down over 12 miles of trail at altitudes over 10,000 feet, yet these llamas have reliably completed nearly every job we have attempted. On overnight trips in cold, wind, and rain, or on hot, dry, and sunny days they complete any task with as much vigor as you can muster yourself. They easily handle varied loads such as: search and rescue gear, oddly shaped trail tools, maintenance tools, solar panels, propane tanks, food and water, and have even removed many TONS of human waste off the mountain, all without a word of complaint. Well trained llamas such as provided by Buckhorn Llama Company are an invaluable resource to have here in Colorado. The memorable experience most visitors to Rocky Mountain National Park have would be impossible without the use of pack llamas, though most visitors likely never even see them.
Season after season Buckhorn Llama Company has been consistently providing strong, smart, well trained, and lovable pack stock every year, and for that we should all be grateful. I highly recommend them for your outdoor adventure needs, and hope that your experiences using them will be as memorable as mine have been. Working with such a professional company has been a genuine pleasure of mine over the past few years and I can’t thank Stan or the llamas enough.
“With the llamas, we could pack all of our gear and more to be comfortable camping where the elk are.”
Your llamas have enabled myself and my hunting partners to access areas that we couldn’t before. We knew getting deep in to the wilderness was what we needed to do to be successful. With the llamas, we could pack all of our gear and more to be comfortable camping where the elk are. We could hunt longer and not be worn out from long hikes in and out daily. We won’t hunt without your llamas in the fall anymore!
“Used to use horses for our pack animals while hunting elk. Now I will never use anything other than a llama.”
“The llamas are well trained, and about as trouble free as any pack animal could possibly be.”
During each of the last 10 years, I have leased llamas for a variety of backcountry trips from Stan Ebel at Buckhorn Llama Company. Stan is very knowledgeable, pleasant to work with, and accommodating to my needs. The llamas are well trained, and about as trouble free as any pack animal could possibly be. Consequently, I no longer plan any backcountry adventure without first arranging for llama companions from Stan.
“The llamas from Buckhorn have never failed; they are true pack animals ready for work.”
I have been backcountry bow hunting with llamas from Buckhorn Llamas for the past 20 years. I have used them in all weather conditions and terrain that you would typically find in the Rocky Mountains. The llamas from Buckhorn have never failed; they are true pack animals ready for work. My success in hunting in the backcountry is partly due to using Buckhorn Llamas.
